This kinesthetic, spatial, creative, and investigative upbringing taught Marc the impact one person can have on their immediate environment and started formalizing the lens in which he approached different educational pursuits. His time at Middlebury College and his involvement with a student-led initiative to build a 100% solar-powered home not only confirmed his passion for building things but began his interest and education into the intersection between the built environment and the natural and the role the Architect plays: careful moderator between innovation, preservation, and sustainability.
Various professional experiences and inspiring mentors since has led Marc to work on projects ranging from new ground-up single-family and multi-family constructions in New England, the South, and the Bahamas; to wooden and masonry historical preservation projects in Vermont, Virginia, and New York; to affordable housing and community development research for the New York City Housing Authority; to a Passive House retrofit in Brooklyn with Henson’s own Jane Sanders.
Over time Marc has learned the importance of melding sustainable design and materials into everyday construction and utilizing new technologies to enhance and better preserve historic structures while limiting their impact on the natural environment. Now at Henson, he is excited to continue with the team what he believes is a life-long education of the practice of architecture, and the exploration of the balance between historic craft, tradition, passive design, and new material and technological advancement.
Marc holds a B.A. in Architectural Studies and Physics from Middlebury College and an M.Arch from The New School, Parsons School of Design, School of Constructed Environments in New York City.
